The Top Bay Area Companies for Businesswomen

PBWC is pleased to announce the Fifth Annual PBWC Pacesetter Award. In our nineteen year history, PBWC has worked to support the advancement of women in the workplace. With the continuation of the Pacesetter Award, we honor those Bay Area companies that embody the mission of our organization and that work to advance women on an ongoing basis.

Former State Senator and PBWC Founder Jackie Speier recognized the San Francisco Bay Area companies that exemplify our mission during the Luncheon General Session.

What Does It Take to Be a Top Company?

The Pacesetter Award winners are listed below in ranked order. This year we introduced additional criteria to measure the level of diversity among women employees and assigned additional weight to women-friendly programs and flexible work arrangements. Here are the criteria used to rank each company and determine this year’s winners:

  • Percentage of women on the board of directors
  • Percentage of women corporate officers
  • Percentage of women executives in the Bay Area defined as vice president and above
  • Percentage of those executives who are women of color
  • Percentage of women employees in the Bay Area
  • Percentage of those employees who are women of color
  • Programs a company has in place to support women in the workplace such as mentoring, internal women's networks, advancement, benefits, leadership, community outreach, etc.
  • Describe flexible work arrangements for Bay Area women in exempt positions. Indicate the number that are working part time, the number that are job sharing, and the number that are working flexible schedules
